"SAFE - Under the right protection" WWI Postcard

Today is the Fourth of July, and it wouldn’t be complete without an installment of The Archives and another historical pit bull terrier representing the United States. Archive #9 is a postcard produced during the onset of WWI, by artist Wallace Robinson.

About the Artist

Previously in this blog series, Archive #5 – a WWI propaganda poster “I’m Neutral, BUT – Not Afraid Of Any Of Them“, was also done by Wallace Robinson. His work regularly focused on American patriotism, and the pit bull terrier was commonly found in his art.

This specific piece – “SAFE – Under The Right Protection” became a mass produced variation of the poster, but printed on a postcard. The pit bull dog, again, symbolized the spirit of the United States during times of war. And, it depicted our courage and strength as a global power.

Artwork such as the ones Wallace Robinson created, are meant to spark enthusiasm for American patriotism.
