River Fire Films was initially established initially to bring thought-provoking documentary films to the general public. In the years that followed we have expanded into other creative spaces with the same purpose in mind – get people to think differently about things.
In this seventh episode of the inaugural season, I reach out to individuals who have legislated against pit bull dogs while serving in political office – including the two former Ohio state lawmakers responsible for authoring the pit bull law that passed in 1987.
Today is the Fourth of July, and it wouldn’t be complete without an installment of The Archives and another historical pit bull terrier representing the United States. Archive #9 is a postcard produced during the onset of WWI, by artist Wallace Robinson.
These historical artifacts tell an important story. In the case of Archive #8, it shows how a match in Kentucky between Lloyd’s Pilot and Kreiger’s Crib for the (first) American Championship in 1881, created s spike in interest of breeding pit bull terriers in the United States for the purpose of sport.
In this sixth episode of the inaugural season, I find myself in the right place at the right time, noticing the beginning stage of the movement to repeal pit bull laws in Ohio with the downfall of Lucas County Dog Warden Tom Skeldon, and the repeal of Toledo’s pit bull law.
While in the middle of a mental health crisis, I began exploring other creative outlets – such as photography, towards the end of 2014 in an attempt to get out of my head for just a bit.
